11:29 pm - Making the world's knowledge computable

Today's Wolfram|Alpha is the first step in an ambitious, long-term project to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable by anyone.  You enter your question or calculation, and Wolfram|Alpha uses its built-in algorithms and growing collection of data to compute the answer.

"Despite changing attitudes, polls continue to show that atheists are ranked lower than any other minority or religious group when Americans are asked whether they would vote for or approve of their child marrying a member of that group."

11:18 pm - I love my iPhone. I love my iPhone. I love my iPhone.

So it decided to stop syncing with my Outlook calender for March. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Reset sync history. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Restored phone. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Funny bit of trivia? It will still sync my Outlook Contacts. I know this because I made a fake contact in my phone and a separate fake contact in Outlook and both of them synced to the other.

So I plug the phone in today to try to get it to sync the calender and lo! It is syncing my Outlook calender again. To a brand new calender that it's made called "Outlook Calender" as it has it's own as well. I guess two calenders is better then no calenders.

10:13 pm - iPhone questions

First off though, fuck you, Apple. I really, really didn't like how you made my directory structure that I had for my music a gigantic mess, but that's how you liked it for iTunes. Though I fought you on it, I relented because I do like my iPod and felt it was just easier to let you do what you wanted. Fine. Being the new owner of a iPhone now, I was prepared to have to adjust my Outlook contacts how you'd like. I can see you having a listing for "Cell Phone" vs. "Mobile Number" or some such thing. Had the kid at the AT&T store not moved all my contacts from my old Sony Ericsson over, I would have just synced the iPhone with Outlook after cleaning up my contacts. Oh, and bang up job on the manual as well. I know there are those out there that like your minimalist packaging, and it is great to not have so much going to the land fill, but didn't you think that someone may put a pass code on their new phone so it doesn't accidentally call Fiji while in their pockets? And maybe you should warn them to take said pass code off the phone before trying to sync it to iTunes? Yeah, I was thrilled to have had my phone for three hours and having to spend the next 45 minutes restoring it because iTunes or the iPhone couldn't tell me to take the pass code off? Or even have me enter the pass code in iTunes as it's directly connected to the phone? So! Once it was all restored and borked my contacts as I thought it might, I took the next hour and changed everyone of my contacts to how I thought you wanted them to be. A (I was going to say quick sync later but there is nothing quick about it and I'm not even moving songs at this point) sync later I've discovered you've borked all my contacts again. Anyone who has a mobile number in Outlook now has a mobile number and an "Other" number that is exactly the same as the mobile number. Bang up. Oh, and I just noticed that you've borked my calender events as well. Rather then having someone's birthday be an all day event, you've decided to stretch them out over two days. Oh! I take that back. Not everyone. Just ones in March. So now I have to fix them how I want them now as well.

Apple. Fuck you. Fuck you because I *know* you're going to bork them all up again and the only way I'm going to be able to fix them is on the iPhone and then sync that back to Outlook.

sigh

All that said, all ya'll out there with iPhones, do you have any recommend "killer app's"? I've got the thing, might as well use it how I, check that, how Apple wants me to.
